Watermarks

"Watermarking" is a process where a photo is overlaid with another image or text (most commonly a copyright) as a means to prevent it from being copied or re-used without permission. SlideShowPro Director allows you to upload and store multiple watermark graphics which can then be assigned to album content. The watermark is only applied when new images are generated, so it's non-destructive to your originally uploaded photos (allowing you to remove or change them whenever you need to).

Here's a walkthrough on how to use watermarks.

Create a PNG

The first step is to create your watermark graphic. For that we recommend using Adobe Photoshop. If you want your graphic to have a transparent background, you should create text or artwork over a transparent background. When finished, go to File > Save for Web and select "PNG-24" as the image format. Make sure the "Transparent" checkbox underneath is checked. When ready save the PNG to your desktop.

Upload PNG

Sign-in to your installation of Director and click on the "Settings" link at the top right. Scroll down, and you'll see the "Watermark" module. Click the "Upload watermark" button, select the PNG you saved on your hard drive, then click OK. When complete your watermark is now ready to use!

Edit watermark (optional)

Want to fine-tune your watermark? Click the "Edit" button in its row. You can control where inside the image the watermark is placed, as well as the overall opacity. You can also assign the graphic a different name for referencing within Director.

Assign watermark

Alright, now that we have a watermark uploaded let's assign it to an album. Click the "Albums" tab in Director's main navigation, and click on the album containing the content you want to assign your watermark to. When the album loads, you'll be on its "Settings" screen. At the bottom-right of the page will be a "Content Watermark" module. Select your watermark from the drop-down, and click Save. Your watermark is now assigned!

Summary

With your watermark assigned, anytime a large image is requested (in normal and full screen mode) the watermark will be included as part of the image generation process. If you decide later you don't want the watermark on your album content, return to "Content Watermark" and set it to "None". Your original images will then be published without a watermark.
