SlideShowPro for Flash is an ActionScript 2 and ActionScript 3 component for Macromedia Flash MX 2004, Macromedia Flash 8, and Adobe Flash CS3 and higher. It is bundled as a Macromedia/Adobe extension file (MXP) and installed through the standalone Extension Manager application.

To install SlideShowPro for Flash, quit Flash (if it is currently running). Double-click on the ZIP you downloaded from your Account Center profile page, then open the folder the ZIP creates. Inside will be a folder named "Extensions" containing two directories: "AS2" and "AS3".

Note: If your ZIP won't open, first make sure you've downloaded the ZIP directly through your browser and not with a third party download manager. Download manager apps interfere with the authentication process. Second, try using the ZIP utility built into your operating system instead of a third party ZIP client. Your ZIP should open fine in Mac OS X, Windows XP/Vista.

The "AS2" (ActionScript 2) directory contains two component versions -- one used only with Macromedia Flash MX 2004 and one for Macromedia Flash 8 or newer.

The "AS3" (ActionScript 3) version includes a single component that is compatible with Adobe Flash CS3 or higher.

Which do I install?

If you own Adobe Flash CS3 or higher, we recommend installing and using the "AS3" version. It contains a few more AS3-only options, and is a newer, more optimized version of the SlideShowPro player that takes advantage of the performance optimizations available in current versions of the Flash Player plugin.

If you own a copy of Flash that's developed by Macromedia (Flash 8 or Flash MX 2004), or if you are developing Flash content written in the ActionScript 2 language, you should use the "AS2" version.

Installing the extension

Whichever version you use, you will see a file with an ".mxp" file extension. Double click on the file to launch Extension Manager (see below).

If you have Extension Manager installed, the application will launch and walk you through the installation process. If your computer returns an error, stating that it doesn't know what to do with the file, visit http://www.adobe.com/exchange/em_download/ to download the latest version of Extension Manager. Install Extension Manager, then retry installing the MXP file.

If Flash isn't one of the available options, quit Extension Manager. Launch Flash, and select "Manage Extensions" from the Help menu. Extension Manager should launch, recognize your installation of Flash, then allow you to install the extension.

When Extension Manager completes, you should see "SlideShowPro for Flash" listed in the Manager interface. You have successfully installed SlideShowPro for Flash! You may now quit Extension Manager, launch Flash, and head over to our Quick Start instructions to get going.
