SlideShowPro for Flash

Upgrading the component

Follow these instructions to update your SlideShowPro for Flash extension, as well as any FLA containing an older instance of the component.

Updating the extension

Step One: Download update

First, sign in to your profile in the Account Center. Download the latest version of SlideShowPro for Flash to your local machine. When complete you should have a ZIP. Decompress the ZIP.

Step Two: Delete installed extension

If Flash is currently open, quit it. Then launch the Extension Manager utility that came with your version of Flash (e.g, "Extension Manager CS5" goes with Flash CS5). Delete the current version of SlideShowPro for Flash that's installed.

Step Three: Install update

Open the folder created by the zip and double click on the ".mxp" file for either the ActionScript 2 or 3 version of SlideShowPro for Flash you have installed. Extension Manager should then install the new version. You can now quit Extension Manager.

Updating FLAs

If you have a copy of SlideShowPro for Flash inside a SWF you want to update to the newer version, here's what you do.

Note: these instructions use the very latest version of the export / import parameter commands available in SlideShowPro 1.9.8.4 or higher, and also require Flash CS3 or newer in order to use. If you run into errors following these instructions, try re-downloading / installing SlideShowPro for Flash to ensure you have the latest scripts installed. Then try the following instructions again.

Step One: Open FLA

Launch Flash and open the FLA document used to the create the SWF.

Step Two: Export parameters

Select the instance of SlideShowPro for Flash on the Stage of your FLA by clicking on it. Next, open "Commands > SSP - Export Param XML" from the application menu. Flash will ask where you want to save the component parameter XML file. Choose a place for it (like your desktop) and give it a name (e.g, "params"). The script will run, and when complete you'll have a file (e.g, "params.xml") containing the component's parameters.

Step Three: Replace component

With the instance of SlideShowPro for Flash on the Stage still selected, delete it. Then open the Library panel (Window > Library) and delete the "SlideShowPro" component contained inside. When both have been deleted, open the Components panel (Window > Components) and drag a new copy of SlideShowPro for Flash to the Stage.

Note: if you had an instance name assigned to your previous instance of the component, assign that name to the new instance you just added. E.g, "my_ssp".

Step Four: Import parameters

Select the instance of SlideShowPro for Flash on the Stage by clicking on it. Next, return to the Commands menu but this time select "SSP - Import Param XML". Navigate to the location of the XML file you exported in Step Two above, and select it. Click the "OK" button.

That's it! You should now have a new instance of SlideShowPro for Flash using all the same parameters from your older copy. Test your movie to make sure it works okay.
