Videos

Unlike photos, videos are created by you (and not SlideShowPro Director). When a video is requested from SlideShowPro Director by the SlideShowPro Player, the same video asset you uploaded is returned without alteration. Director will however use keyframes from your video (if Director is hosted with us or your server has FFMpeg installed) to create all the requisite thumbnail and preview images the SlideShowPro Player requires.

Formats

The SlideShowPro Player can load H.264, FLV, or F4V as slideshow content (more info on formats here). We recommend encoding videos using H.264 because you'll be able to view the video in and out of the SlideShowPro Player (including Director's HTML5 mobile fallback player). Adobe's proprietary FLV is an older format that can only be viewed in the browser using the Flash Player and is not recommended.

Creating a video

In this walkthrough we'll create an H.264 video using Adobe Media Encoder (which comes free with Adobe Flash), though the instructions apply to just about any video encoding utility.

Step One: Size player

Size and style the SlideShowPro Player however you want. When complete, note the width of the player. We'll use that in the next step.

Step Two: Create video

Open Adobe Media Encoder. Drag the video(s) you'd like to convert into the empty area. With your video(s) added, select all videos, then click the "Settings" button.

Video format

A window will open with a lot of options, but we're only going to edit two (other settings are fine for most users). First, change the "Format" in the "Export Settings" box to "H.264" (see screenshot on left).

Video size Next, we need to change the output size. To do that, click on the bottom-right "Video" tab (see screenshot on right). In the "Basic Video Settings" box, you'll see "Frame Width" and "Frame Height". These are the output dimensions of your video. Enter the width of the player into the "Frame Width" field. The "Frame Height" field should automatically adjust for a proportional scale.

When finished editing both of the above, click "OK." You'll return to the first screen. Click the "Start Queue" button on the right-side of the window. Video exporting will begin.

Loading a video

With your new video(s) exported, it's time to load them in the SlideShowPro Player. Sign-in to SlideShowPro Director and upload the H.264 video(s) you created. If your server supports FFMpeg, video thumbnails and preview graphics will be automatically generated. Go ahead and try loading the album you uploaded the video(s) to by copying and assigning the album's XML File Path to the SlideShowPro Player. If all went well, you should see your video.

Note: If you aren't using SlideShowPro Director and are loading our own data, click here for instructions.
