in ThumbGrid 1, this controls the number of pixel width of the area around the inside edge of the grid area, as well as the space between all thumbnails.
In ThumbGrid 2, this is used for the spacing between thumbnails. padding is used for the inside edge.
Acceptable values include 0 (for no spacing at all) up to any number that doesn't remove the visibility of thumbnails.
The default value is 10.
